Marae management

Management

The business is run by an operational team who are supported by Auckland Airport and Te Roopu Kaumatua. The guiding principles for operating the Marae are to uphold the Kingitanga, honour the protocols of Tainui kawa, and to operate with cultural and professional integrity.

The governance structure of the Marae is through a Board of Trustees with three representatives each appointed by Auckland Airport and by Tainui; a total of six trustees.

A kaumatua roopu was established in June 2005 to provide cultural guidance and advice for the construction and implementation of matters relating to tikanga and kawa. It is important to acknowledge the contribution they make; such as facilitating the names of the Marae, advising on protocol rituals and policy matters as appropriate. Attendances at Nga Marae Toopu are regular for all other Marae in the Tainui region to meet and connect with.
